Fordite was formed from the overspray buildup of automotive enamel layers during the manufacturing process. This buildup was eventually chipped off in large chunks and collected by factory workers. The painting process has changed over the past 30-40 years, virtually eliminating overspray buildup, and as a result, no true Fordite is being produced anymore.
